Portland RNA Commemorates 4th July Foylebank Fallen

Shipmates,

The Portland Branch of the Royal Naval Association once again honoured the memory of those who fell during the attack on HMS Foylebank on the morning of 4th July 1940, with a poignant ceremony held at the Yeates Road memorial site.

Since the dedication of the memorial on 4th July 2021, the Portland RNA has proudly taken on the duty of remembrance, ensuring the sacrifice of those lost is never forgotten. This year, fourteen members of the branch were in attendance.

A moving reading was delivered by Branch Chairman, Shipmate Dusty Miller, while the Branch Standard was paraded by Branch President, Shipmate Ben Cartwright. Shipmate Micky Fox also paraded the Ajax Association Standard, adding to the solemn dignity of the occasion.

The ceremony was further marked by the presence of Mr Johnson, whose father, Edwin Johnson, served aboard HMS Foylebank. His attendance served as a powerful reminder of the personal legacies carried forward by families and communities alike.

The Portland RNA remains committed to preserving naval heritage and supporting veterans and their families through unity, loyalty, and comradeship.
