D-Day Civic Service of Remembrance Victoria Gardens

Many thanks to all the Branch Members and their spouses for attending the Service today. It was so good to see. Cllr Susan Cockings, the Mayor, was very impressed with the numbers present.

Shipmates, the Annual Service of Remembrance took place at the US D-Day Memorial in Victoria Gardens 0n 6th June, the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings. About 100 people attended including many Branch Members and Veterans, including one who had travelled from Preston in Lancashire. The American Standard, which was carried by former US Serviceman Lynwood Newman of member of the Weymouth Branch, was supported by four other Standards including our own. Wreath laying was led by Cllr Susan Cocking, Portland Town Mayor, and prayers were led by Pastor Paula Brown, Mayor’s Chaplain.
