FALKLANDS 35
It is 35 years in June since the Falklands War ended. Each warship and many of the support ships had a helicopter embarked, Wasp and Wessex 3 from Portland, Lynx and Wessex 5 from Yeovilton. The Lynx on return from the Falklands were then based at Portland so all had a great affinity with the base and many resided on the Isle or local area and still do. The crews and maintainers have served on most of the aforementioned aircraft and have a great sense of comradeship with each other.
To commemorate the occasion of 35 years since we safely returned and to remember those who sadly did not return to our fair Isle it is intended to hold a reunion at Weymouth Golf Club on the 17th June 2017. For all those who were part of a ship’s flight or squadron and were awarded the South Atlantic Medal and wish to attend please contact DAVE MCCAUGHEY (EX-SMR HMS Yarmouth) on 07772 898347.
