Double Diamonds works wonders

Portland Sea Cadets TS Penn carried out an annual Prize giving evening in their unit to celebrate their Diamond Anniversary on Thursday 26th January 2017.
The evening was very well attended including local officials, parents and friends of the sea cadets, plus members of the Portland Royal Naval Association.

The cadets delighted us with a musical demonstration and presentation of their last two years activities which proved that these young people thoroughly enjoy what they do, and reap the rewards internally and externally achieved through various Local and National competitions.

One email received following the event read –
Morning Dan,
Very inspirational. There are some future professional sailors amongst them. Great kids, restores your faith in our youngsters.

The Portland branch of the Royal Naval Association, who also celebrated their Diamond Anniversary in 2016 were happy to provide a Diamond Community Trophy to be presented to the cadet who had contributed the most within the community. This trophy was presented by the RNA branch President Dick Barton.

Other presenters on the evening were:
1. Captain John Harvey Royal Navy  President of TS Penn Sea Cadets. Who also presented a Burgee to the unit which demonstrates the high standard the unit has achieved throughout the year.
2. Portland Mayor Councillor Sandy West who also inspected the parade (divisions) cut the cake and spoke glowingly at the close of proceedings.

Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  BZ (well done) to the instructors and staff of the unit who pulled out all the stops, the tea and cake was very welcome.
