HMS Illustrious Memorial Service

The HMS Illustrious Liberty Boat Memorial in Portland, Dorset, commemorates the 29 lives lost when a liberty boat from the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious capsized in Portland Harbour on October 17, 1948. The memorial, unveiled in 2010 at Osprey Quay, is a Portland stone monument located at the Portland Marina and serves as a permanent reminder of the tragic peacetime naval disaster.

The Association would like to invite Branch members to attend a short service at 1100 on 18 October at the Memorial in front of Boatfolk’s offices, Osprey Quay.
